Serotonin ELISA kit
Serotonin ELISA kit
The gut-brain axis is the study of bidirectional signaling that occurs between microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract and the nervous system. It has been shown that this relationship plays important role in maintaining healthy brain functions by regulating anxiety, pain, cognition and mood. The gut microbiota communicates with the brain through different chemicals, including cytokines, hormones, peptides and neurotransmitters. Among them, Serotonin (otherwise known as 5-HT, or happy molecule) was also found to be a key regulator of GI motility and secretion in the gut. More than 90% Serotonin secreted by the body is found in the bowels. Indigenous spore forming bacteria (Sp) from our gut microbiota produce metabolites that signal to colonic enterochromaffin cells (ECs) to synthesize Serotonin, regulating GI’s motility and platelet function. The study of gut-brain axis and how gut microbiota affects the secretion of Serotonin offers new hope for developing therapeutic strategies to combat brain or metabolic disorders through diet. |

Serotonin ELISA Kit Principles of assay: This ELISA kit employs a competitive enzyme immunoassay technique for the quantitative detection of Serotonin in human samples. Endogenous Serotonin of sample competes with a microplate-bound Serotonin for binding to the fixed number of Serotonin antibody binding sites. The exact concentration of Serotonin in the sample is then calculated through a calibration curve prepared by using known standards. |

About Serotonin | |||
Serotonin or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a Tryptophan-derived monoamine neurotransmitter primarily found in the gastrointestinal tract, blood platelets, and the central nervous system. It is popularly thought to be a contributor to feelings of well-being happiness, as well as a regulator of intestinal movement. | |||
