| Gene Symbol | NDUFB2 |
| Gene Full Name | NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) 1 beta subcomplex, 2, 8kDa |
| Background | The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the multisubunit NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I). Mammalian complex I is composed of 45 different subunits. This protein has NADH dehydrogenase activity and oxidoreductase activity. It plays a important role in transfering electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. Hydropathy analysis revealed that this subunit and 4 other subunits have an overall hydrophilic pattern, even though they are found within the hydrophobic protein (HP) fraction of complex I. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
| Function | Accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believed not to be involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. [UniProt] |
| Cellular Localization | Mitochondrion inner membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Matrix side. [UniProt] |
| Calculated MW | 12 kDa |
