Overview
Product Description | Mouse Monoclonal antibody [H4] recognizes CYP19A1 / Aromatase Mouse anti Human Cytochrome P450 Aromatase antibody, clone H4 recognizes a conserved epitope within cytochrome P450 aromatase (P450 arom). P450 arom plays an important role in estrogen biosynthesis and is highly conserved amongst mammals.P450 arom is highly expressed in placental tissue. For tissues where there may be low expression of P450 arom, the use of microsomal extracts may improve the staining for Western blots using Mouse anti Human Cytochrome P450 Aromatase antibody, clone H4 (Turner et al. 2002). |

Gene Symbol | CYP19A1 |
Gene Full Name | cytochrome P450, family 19, subfamily A, polypeptide 1 |
Background | This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and catalyzes the last steps of estrogen biosynthesis. Mutations in this gene can result in either increased or decreased aromatase activity; the associated phenotypes suggest that estrogen functions both as a sex steroid hormone and in growth or differentiation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2014] |
Function | Catalyzes the formation of aromatic C18 estrogens from C19 androgens. [UniProt] |
Calculated MW | 58 kDa |
PTM | Phosphorylated in vitro by PKA and PKG/PRKG1. These phosphorylations inhibit the catalytic activity as measured by estrone synthesis from androstenedione (36% decrease for PKA and 30% for PKG/PRKG1). |
