GeneID: 293 Human SLC25A6

Swiss-port # P12236 Human ADP/ATP translocase 3

Gene Symbol SLC25A6
Gene Full Name solute carrier family 25 (mitochondrial carrier; adenine nucleotide translocator), member 6
Background This gene is a member of the mitochondrial carrier subfamily of solute carrier protein genes. The product of this gene functions as a gated pore that translocates ADP from the cytoplasm into the mitochondrial matrix and ATP from the mitochondrial matrix into the cytoplasm. The protein is implicated in the function of the permability transition pore complex (PTPC), which regulates the release of mitochondrial products that induce apoptosis. The human genome contains several non-transcribed pseudogenes of this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2013]
Function Catalyzes the exchange of cytoplasmic ADP with mitochondrial ATP across the mitochondrial inner membrane. May participate in the formation of the permeability transition pore complex (PTPC) responsible for the release of mitochondrial products that triggers apoptosis. [UniProt]
Cellular Localization Mitochondrion inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Note=The complex formed with ARL2BP, ARL2 and SLC25A6 is expressed in mitochondria. [UniProt]
Calculated MW 33 kDa
